TEEN MAZE 2014

The Whitfield and Murray Family Connection, in partnership with Dalton Public Schools, Whitfield County Schools, and Murray County Schools, are thrilled to announce the planning and production of our Second Annual Teen Maze Event.

The event is scheduled for September 29 – October 3, 2014 at the Northwest Georgia Fairgrounds.

Teen Maze is an event at which students have the opportunity to face consequences of randomly selected life-style choices associated with risky youth behaviors in a safe and controlled environment. The maze is set up as an interactive “Game of Life”. Students will have the opportunity to examine the consequences of life’s choices in a hands-on, realistic and educational way.

Teens navigate through a maze that presents different scenarios and related consequences. The goal is to

increase their understanding of personal responsibility and the importance of making positive life choices. Each scenario will be staffed by appropriate professionals who will present the information and discuss the consequences associated with that scenario.

                                                      ACCIDENT

From the party, all students proceed to an accident scene, where they will witness a dramatic

demonstration of a horrific car crash resulting from intoxication. From the side of the road,

the students will watch the tragedy play out as first responders do all they can to save lives.

They will also hear an incredible speaker whose goal is to help teens understand the importance

of making the right choices in life, especially if those choices involve alcohol or drugs.

INJURY

Some students will proceed from the crash scene to a hospital room where nurses and doctors are working to revive the crash victim. Teens will watch and wait to see if the victim will survive the crash injuries and following surgical interventions.

ARRESTED

Some students will be taken to Juvenile Court and go before the Judge and the Juvenile Justice staff. Court staff will go over all conditions of probationand the possible restrictions of their freedom.

DEATH

Some students, because of their decision to drive while under the influence, will be killed and begin at the funeral home. There they will participate in activities guided by the funeral directors, and hear a eulogy read in their memory.

PREGNANCY

Some participants will be assigned to a pregnancy track, where they will wear pregnancy bellies, and be educated on what is involved with being a parent. Volunteers from the Department of Family and Children Services will counsel participants on resources and support for teen parents.

GRADUATION AND BEYOND

The goal of every teen as they pass through The Maze will be        graduation and life after high school. Students will participate in a graduation ceremony, complete with cap, gown and diploma. Students will then gather information about college life provided by Dalton State College, as well as other life opportunities.
